When Worry Is Worrisome

Scripture: Matthew 6: 25-34

What things tend to wind you up? Cause you to lose sleep? Produce worry and fear in your heart as you ponder the future? When you hear Jesus’ command, “Do not be anxious about your life,” how does that impact you? Is that even possible?
As you look over this section, what reasons does Jesus give that should help us become less anxious people? Do you think our culture is more anxiety producing than previous times in history? Why or why not?
The word translated “anxious” in v. 25 is also translated in a more positive manner as “concern/care” (I Cor 12:25; Phil 2:20). How can we differentiate legitimate concern from unhealthy anxiety?
Practically, what does it look like to “seek first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness” in the routines of our daily lives? Does this preclude our pursuing other things (e.g., excellence in our vocations, enjoyment in our recreation/hobbies etc.)?
