Sermon Series: Confident Christianity

How do people in our society typically attempt to deal with feelings of guilt that arise when they have done something they consider to be inappropriate? If you are a follower of Jesus Christ, how do you respond when you mess up in life (aka- “sin”)? What do you do to assuage your guilty conscience?
Since the Gospel proclaims that Jesus Christ’s work on the cross has completely forgiven all the sins (past, present, and future) of those who trust in him, what possibly can motivate Jesus’ followers to abstain from sins that are often so alluring and pleasurable? If the sin will be forgiven, why shouldn’t I enjoy it?
How does it affect you when you ponder the reality that Jesus is presently your “advocate/defense attorney” representing you in the presence of the Father? How should the reality that God’s anger towards sin and his commitment to justice has been fully satisfied through Jesus and his sacrifice on our behalf impact our present relationship with God – even when we still “stumble in many ways” (James 3:2)?
