John Calvin called the Israelites’ behavior in Exodus 32 “monstrous madness and stupidity”! What is your response to their actions? Do you see any of yourself in them or are they truly monstrously stupid?
When you don’t “see” what God is doing in your life and are unsure of what lies ahead, how do you typically respond? What temptations are particularly alluring to you during these times?
In the West, very few people worship metal idols but many of us have mental idols. How would you define an idol? What “idols” are “worshipped” in our culture today? Why is it often more appealing to worship and idol than the true God? How do you see the temptation to
mold God into a more culturally acceptable shape impacting the church today?
How does Moses act as a type/picture/foreshadowing of Jesus in this section? In what ways is Jesus superior? What connections do you see between this story to the fall of humans in Genesis 3? What can we learn from the common threads of the two stories?
