Is it a burden or a joy to make the heart of someone you love rejoice? If we have experienced this joy in our human relationships, why do we sometimes feel like pleasing Jesus is such a huge burden (even though he and his followers told us his commands are not there to burden us – Matthew 11:30; I John 5:3)? What should we be focusing on if obedience has become a drag? See Ephesians 3:14
In chapter 13, the author of Hebrews gives severals ways in which these believers can live out the reality of their faith in day to day life – showing hospitality, caring for the mistreated, staying faithful in marriage, being content with our material resources, focusing on the grace and truth of God instead of religious rituals, honoring and responding to godly leadership, praising God, and sharing our resources with the needy. Take a moment to evaluate how practically your faith is being lived out in these areas. Is the Holy Spirit nudging you to do something about any of these areas in 2010?
If you sense you have fallen short in any of these areas, ask the Lord for his forgiveness and empowerment when we celebrate his table this morning. Remember, regardless of the past, it is possible to start 2010 with a clean slate! Col 2:13-15; I John 1:8-10
