God’s Portable Presence

Given on May 30, 2021 by Brett Helvie
Scripture: Exodus 35-40
Sermon Series: Freedom to Worship

These chapters deal with the construction of the tabernacle and the priestly accouterments that were made according to the designs given in chapters 25-31, but the author interrupts the logical flow of the story from design to construction with the story of the golden calf. Why do you think he wrote it in this way? What does the glory of the Lord filling the tabernacle tell us about God’s attitude toward the people post-rebellion? Do you think there is any significance to the tabernacle finally being set up on the first day of the first month?
The Israelites were dependent on following the cloud (the visible presence of the Lord) during their journey through the wilderness. How do you seek to determine where God is leading you in this “wilderness” until you reach your “land of rest”?
What pictures/types of Jesus do you see presented in the narrative of Exodus? Which of these are clearly developed by the NT writers? Which of them are most meaningful to you?
As you think back over the book of Exodus, what has God shown you about himself? What have you learned about yourself? What are some of your big “takeaways” from this book?
