Community as Holy Nation: Developing a Christlike Culture

Given on August 1, 2021
Sermon Series:

Where does our culture tell us that our identity is found? What do the Scriptures indicate should be the source of our identity? On what do you base your identity?
What characteristics make a group of people a nation/ethnic group/ethnic culture? How do these characteristics apply to the community of believers in Jesus Christ? Do you think the church today is acting like a “holy nation”? Why or why not? What can we do to improve?
What do you think would change if God’s people truly thought of themselves as “sojourners” whose true citizenship is in God’s kingdom? Is God’s Spirit nudging you to make any changes in light of your “temporary resident” status here in this culture?
How are we as followers of Jesus called to interact with the world’s culture? Are we to separate from it? Fight against it? Assimilate to it? What does it mean to be “in the world but not of it” regarding entertainment, occupation, sexuality, wealth, worship, etc. etc.? What role should our brothers and sisters in Christ play in working through these issues?
