Community as Family: A Place of Messy Grace

Sermon Series: Called to Community

Community in the New Testament is often viewed as a family. How do you react to that analogy? What do you think are characteristics of a healthy family? What are the major obstacles to the church functioning as a healthy family in our culture?
Given the reality that none of us have yet arrived at a state of sinless perfection, how should we handle the inevitable conflict and hurt that will arise when we relate closely with one another? How have you seen conflict mishandled among brothers and sisters in Christ?
“Grace must be the bedrock foundation of a vibrant and authentic Christian community!” Do you agree with this statement? Why or why not?
Spend some time praying and ask the Holy Spirit to show you specifically how you can be a more encouraging bother or sister in your Christian “family”. If there are any obstacles or fears you face in becoming a more fully engaged member of God’s family, ask the Lord to help you talk honestly with one of your spiritual siblings about it.
