Scripture: Luke 24:13-34
Sermon Series: Beginnings

Cleopas and his friend were walking away from Jerusalem – deeply discouraged and downcast. How had Jesus disappointed them? What do you think they believed was the main problem in their lives and society? As you look at your life, what do you think the main problems are? Are those issues external or internal to you?

What are you pinning your hopes on in this life? “Until our worldly hopes lie in a pile of ashes before us, there is no hope that we will truly hope in Jesus!” Do you agree with this statement? How has discouragement and disillusionment with life impacted your relationship with him?

Why do you think Jesus chose to reveal himself to Cleopas and his friend in such a unspectacular fashion (he was, after all, the all powerful, risen Son of God) ~ simply walking with them, sharing Scripture with them, and joining them for a meal? Who do you think Jesus is? Have you spent any time thinking about that question? Why or why not? I want to challenge you to spend some time pondering his identity. I believe that question is the single most significant question we must answer!
