If you pray, what do your prayers typically focus on? What does your prayer life look like in actual practice – a set aside time each day? whenever you have some spare time? a periodic check in the midst of the busyness of life? Are you content with your prayer life? What would you like to be different? Be honest!
Our prayer lives can easily devolve into “saying the same old things about the same old things a thousand times” (Donald Whitney). What methods or approaches to prayer have you tried in order to keep things fresh and interesting? Have they been helpful?
Many believers from the past have found praying through the Psalms and meditating on the Scriptures have been hugely helpful in keeping their prayer lives out of a rut. If you are struggling with boredom in your prayer life, I’d encourage you to try personalizing and praying through the Psalms or meditating on the Word and talking with God about it.
What role does listening play in your prayer life? How do you typically “hear” the voice of your Shepherd? How can we determine if what we are hearing is God or simply our own imagination?
