The Reasons for Our Rescue

Given on October 18, 2020 by Brett Helvie
Scripture: Exodus 19
Sermon Series: Freedom to Worship

Would you say you have a strong sense of identity and purpose in life? God outlines his purposes for his rescued people in Exodus 19:5&6 and Peter almost verbatim applies those to the church in I Peter 2:9. How are these purposes impacting how you think about your worth and value? Your resources? Your relationships? Your work? Your leisure time?
How can we approach God with confidence and boldness (Eph. 3:12;Heb. 4:16) while at the same time maintaining an appropriate reverence and respect for God’s awesome holiness?
What do you think that actually living like one of God’s royal priests should look like in 2020? How do you think God’s call to “proclaim his excellencies” as his royal priests is connected to his call for us to be holy? What problems can occur if we focus on either one of these to the exclusion of the other?
Spend some time this week marveling at God’s awesomeness displayed through his creation (a thunderstorm, a star filled sky, a newborn baby etc.) and then allow your soul to be flooded with gratitude knowing that Jesus’ work on the cross has enabled you to have a relationship with our awesomely magnificent Creator who considers you his treasured possession!
