Do you think the command to remember the sabbath is mandatory for Christians today? Why or why not? Even if it is not mandatory, do you think it has any wisdom and relevance for those of us living in our 24/7/365 smart phone culture?
Why do you think this is the only command that begins with the requirement to “remember”? What forces are at work in our society and in our personal psyches that conspire to cause us to forget our need for physical and spiritual rest?
If you asked Jesus to take a look at your work and your rest, what counsel do you think he would give you? Why do you think we Americans (on average) work more than any other nation? What is it about work that we value so highly?
Can you honestly say that your soul has found rest? If not, what can you learn from Jesus’ gracious invitation in Matthew 11:28-30? In what practical ways can you “come” to him and take up his “yoke” and “learn” of him? Are you willing to strive to enter his rest?
