Isaiah describes spiritually wayward Israel as “hungry”, “distressed”, “enraged” at God and looking to the earth to satisfy but only finding “distress and darkness and fearful gloom” (Isa. 8:19-22) Do you think this is an accurate description of our world in the 21st century? Why or why not? Where are people looking for “light” in our world today?
According to the beginning verses of Isaiah 9, what event will change the people’s darkness into light, their gloom into joy, and their distress into peace? Would you say you are living in light, joy and peace this Christmas season?
As you look at the description of this child/son, what strikes you most? Do you really believe that Jesus fulfills this ancient prophecy? Are you looking to him to give you what you really need this Christmas? As Isaiah describes Jesus in verse 6, which of these attributes do you need to trust in more fully?
May you be filled with the love of the Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace as we celebrate His advent this Christmas!
