Scripture: Colossians 1:12-17
Sermon Series: Complete in Christ

What aspects of the invisible God do you find hard to understand and grasp? In what ways can meditating on the fact that Jesus is the visible image of the invisible God help us to experience God more personally and intimately? If you are struggling to understand and relate to God, spend some extended time in the Gospels and ask the Holy Spirit to help you really “see” Jesus because as he said, “If you have seen me you have seen the Father”! Various cultic groups use the term translated “firstborn” to argue that Jesus is a created being. What do you see in this passage and other Scriptures that would invalidate this type of thinking? See Exodus 4:22; Psalm 89:27

The first stanza of this poem clearly presents Jesus as supreme over all creation – physical and spiritual. What practical application of this reality do you see for your life? Are there any areas of your life in which you are refusing to acknowledge his rightful authority? The Scriptures clearly portray the reality of a spiritual or “invisible” realm of creation. How should the fact that Jesus is even the Creator of this unseen realm impact our view of “spirituality” in our culture? Why would this truth be important for the Colossian believers?
