Loving the Law?!

How do you react when reading through the laws given by God to the Israelites? Are they to be applied in our lives today? How do we go about determining which ones to obey and which to ignore? Can you say with the Psalmist of old, “I love your law!”?
How can viewing the laws of Israel as case illustrations of a higher principle or ideal rather than rigid legal statutes help us in seeking to relate these laws to our lives? Can you think of any examples of this occurring in the New Testament? See I Tim 5:18; Rom. 13:9&10; Mark 12:28-34
The author of Hebrews tells followers of Jesus that the law covenant of the Old Testament is “obsolete” and soon to disappear (Heb. 8:13) but we are also told that ALL Scripture is inspired and profitable (II Tim 3:16). In what ways can we benefit from studying a portion of Scripture that is no longer directly applicable to us?
