God’s Heart to Dwell with Us

Scripture: Exodus 25-27
Sermon Series: Freedom to Worship

According to 25:8, what reason does God give for all the coming instructions on building the tabernacle and staffing it (Exodus 25-31 and 35-40)? What do you think is the significance of making sure everything is built exactly according to God’s design? What does this say about our culture’s notion that, if there is a God, there are a myriad of ways to approach him/her/it?
Jesus claims that his body is the temple (John 2:19). In what ways do you see Jesus fulfilling the various parts of the tabernacle pictured in Exodus. John also tells us that Jesus “tabernacled” among us in John 1:14. What can we do to experience the presence of God in Jesus today?
Paul makes an astounding claim in I Cor. 3:16&17 and 6:19 – that the collective body of believers is the temple of God! What does that tell us about how we can experience God’s “dwelling among us” today? What does that tell us about the significance of community? How should that impact our thinking of what we do with our individual bodies?
