Sermon Series: Beginnings

Points to Ponder:
As you look forward to 2019, what would you say is your top priority? Why is it
your #1? How do you anticipate that this priority will impact your use of time,
mental discipline, and material resources? Where does your relationship with God
fit into your priorities at this point in time?
Jesus states in Luke 10:27 that the greatest responsibility that a human being has is to
“love God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and
with all your mind.” The apostle Paul’s greatest passion was to know Jesus Christ
(Phil. 3:7ff). The apostle Peter realized that our access to the divine power to handle
this life and to grow spiritually comes through our relationship with Jesus (II Peter
1:3ff). Given these realities, are there any spiritual practices that you would like to
focus more on in 2019 in order to grow in your relationship with Jesus?
What challenges and obstacles pop into your mind when you think about developing
a closer relationship with Jesus in 2019? What personality traits and qualities need
to be present in another person in order for us to want to spend time with that
person? In your view, does Jesus possess those characteristics? If you are struggling
with your motivation to spend time with Jesus, be honest with him and earnestly pray
Paul’s prayer in Ephesians 3:14-21.
