Living Life as a Learner

NOTE: Due to technical difficulties the audio for this sermon is unavailable.

As believers, we can struggle at times to reconcile the promises of our Lord and our experiences of the moment. How might the “united attack” on Paul in v.12 be a challenge for Paul given the Lord’s promise in v. 10? What truths about our Lord do we need to remind ourselves of during these times of uncertainty?

What role should religious rituals and traditions have in our walk with Jesus? How have church traditions or rituals impacted your relationship with God? What do you think would have motivated Paul, who clearly realized he wasn’t required to obey the law to be accepted by God (Phil. 3:1-10), to take a Nazirite vow (Num. 6:1-21)?

What attributes characterize people who are “lifelong learners”? How do well-educated people tend to treat those with lesser academic credentials? How have you benefitted from the wisdom of more mature believers – even if they have less formal training than you have had?

What attitudes help to open a person up to a “more accurate” understanding of the Lord and his truth? What attitudes tend to hinder the reception of “constructive criticism”? How gracious, kind and patient are you with those who may have inadequate or uninformed opinions about Jesus and Christianity?
