Laughable Rage

Sermon Date : February 21, 2010
Speaker : Brett Helvie
Scripture : Psalm 2

What evidence do you see around you of nations and people “raging” and “plotting” against God and his “Anointed”?  What “chains” and “fetters” are they trying to break and throw off?  Why do you think people fight so vehemently against such a loving God?

Is there any area of your life where you feel God’s ways are oppressive and you want to break free and do your own thing?  If you have done that in the past, what has been the result in your life of opposing God and his purposes for you?  Given what you know of Jesus’ character and the enslaving nature of sin, why is fighting God such a foolish decision?

Despite all the raging and plotting of men, the Lord is “laughing” at his enemies’ futile attempts to thwart his sovereignty.  How should the Lord’s response impact how we view world events and even events in our own lives?   Are God’s plans threatened or jeopardized by a biased media or by the scheming of men and women in power who oppose God and his truth?

One day we will all stand before Jesus and we will either experience his fearful wrath or his loving blessing.  Are you still vainly trying to resist his loving rule or have you come to the point where you have “kissed the Son” and “taken refuge in Him”?  If you have not trusted in Jesus and accepted his leadership in your life, what is keeping you from making that decision?
