How Secure Is Your Hope?

Sermon Date : August 30, 2009
Speaker : Brett Helvie
Scripture : Hebrews 6:13-20

In what things do people place their hope as they look toward the future? As you look toward the future, on what do you base your hope? How secure and stable are these items?

On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate your current level of hope? What tends to discourage you and rob you of hope for the future? What role do finances, relationships, and health play in your future hopes?

Scriptures repeatedly encourage us to place our hope in the Lord and the certainty of his promises to us (Ps. 25:3; 33:18; 42:5; 130:7; 147:11; Col. 1:27; I Tim. 6:17; Titus 2:13; etc.). What steps can we take to remind ourselves of this truth in the midst of the broken world in which we live and the often difficult circumstances we must face?

Despite the world we live in, I believe that followers of Jesus Christ are called to be “realistic optimists” (Jer. 29:11; Rom. 8:24&25; 15:13; I Th. 1:3; Heb. 10:23; 11:1). What practical things can you do, with the Lord’s help, to become a more hope filled and joy filled person?
