Lord Have Mercy … and Grace
| Sermon Date | : | August 2, 2009 | |
| Speaker | : | Brett Helvie | |
| Scripture | : | Hebrews 4:14-16 |
How approachable do you feel God is? How do you respond to God when you know you have made a mess of some aspect of your life? Do your mistakes and needs usually drive you to the Lord or away from him?
Even though everything in our lives is “uncovered and laid bare” before the eyes of God, we are still urged to approach Jesus throne with bold confidence. How can this be? What do we need to remember when our own sense of unworthiness causes us to pull back in our relationship with Jesus?
We desperately need the help of the Lord to overcome our weaknesses, failures and the strong temptations we face. Why do you think the Evil One works so hard to accuse believers and cause them to feel unworthy of Jesus’ love and presence?
The writer describes Jesus’ throne – the central symbol of his power and authority – as a throne of “grace” (not as a throne of justice, power, or righteousness). What does this tell us about how Jesus rules over his people?
