Trust… For The Long Haul

Sermon Date : July 19, 2009
Speaker : Brett Helvie
Scripture : Hebrews 3:1-19

In the midst of the busyness of our lives, how can we regularly “fix our thoughts” on Jesus? What benefits do you think you would experience if you regularly began practicing this mental discipline and focus?

How impressionable and responsive is your heart toward the things of God right now? How has that changed over the past year? Are there any consistent sins, rebellious patterns, ongoing grumblings and ingratitude that may be “hardening” your heart in a spiritual sense? How is the Holy Spirit asking you to deal with those issues today? What are the consequences of hardening our hearts to the Lord?

“Christianity is a team sport!” Do you agree with that statement? How can we “encourage one another daily”? Specifically, how can we be used by God in the lives of other believers to keep us all from being duped and deceived by the allure of various sins? Are we doing this in the church today?

Despite the amazing displays of the Lord’s power that the Israelites experienced in the Exodus, most of them failed to continue to trust in the Lord for the long haul. In what areas is the Lord asking you to trust him now? How are you responding?
