| Scripture | : | Genesis 41 |
Do you think periods of adversity or seasons of great prosperity are more fraught with spiritual dangers? As you look back on Joseph’s life, what character qualities was the Lord developing and what character flaws was the Lord correcting in order to prepare him to be of one of the most powerful men on earth at that time?
What unique temptations and challenges come when the Lord gives us great wealth, talent or power? How can we foster humility and dependence on the Lord during the good times?
What lessons have you learned and what corrections has the Lord made in your life during times of adversity and challenge? Have those changes impacted how you look at life and respond to the temptations that arise during periods of prosperity and comfort? In what ways?
At times, we may be forgotten by others (Gen. 40:23) and feel forgotten by God (Psa. 13:1) yet, He promises never to leave us or forsake us (Heb. 13:5). How does this story illustrate the perfection of God’s timing in our lives? What do you think would have happened had Joseph been released from jail immediately after he interpreted the cupbearer’s dream? What would have happened to his family during the famine?
