Following in a Father’s Footsteps?!

Sermon Date : November 16, 2008
Speaker : Brett Helvie
Scripture : Genesis 26

As you read this chapter, what similarities do you see between Abraham and his son Isaac? How does the reality that “more is caught than taught” on the home front impact you? Do you see any sinful family patterns that are being reproduced in you and in your children? What can we do to attempt to end this cycle?

Isaac was tested and tempted by the same circumstances and pressures as his father… and failed in the same way his father had! If you are a parent, what are you doing to help prepare your children to face the unavoidable temptations that they will encounter down the road? How open and honest should we be about our past failures and what we have learned from them with our children?

Isaac was told to stay for a short time in the land of Gerar (v.3) yet he ended up “settling” there (v. 6, 17). What did the Lord use to get Isaac back to the place of intimacy and fellowship with Him (the place of the altar nd the tent - v. 25)? How has the Lord used the struggles and difficulties of life to move you to a place of greater intimacy with Him?
