Till Death Do Us Part

| Scripture | : | Genesis 23 |
Facing the ultimate reality, death often reveals the depth of our faith in God. How did Abraham handle the death of Sarah? How are we, as followers of Christ, called to react to death? See I Thessalonians 4:13-18; I Corinthians 15
Wise old Solomon tells us that it is better to go to a funeral than to a party (Ecclesiastes 7:2) because we are forced to face our own mortality. How we view death can show us what we are truly living for here on earth. Paul said, “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.” What does your view of death indicate about who or what you are really living for?
Even through Abraham lived much differently from the Hittites, he seemed to be respected and admired by them (see Genesis 23:5-6). Is it possible to live a life of wholehearted devotion to Jesus and still be respected by those who do not know Christ in our day and age? What qualities need to characterize our lives if this is to take place?
Abraham handled his finances with integrity and according to the customs of the day as evidenced here by the purchase of the burial plot and previously in his interaction with the King of Sodom (Genesis 14:22). As a follower of Christ, are you evidencing financial integrity even when that integrity may negatively impact your net worth?
